Course Assessments

Competency is assessed through a combination of theoretical understanding and practical application:

• Theory Assessment: Instructor-led discussions and knowledge checks to confirm understanding of key safety principles and industry best practices.
• Practical Assessment: Direct observation of practical skills and emergency response techniques, including ladder climbing, rescue exercises, fire awareness drills, first aid scenarios, and sea survival activities (where applicable).

• Wind Turbine Technicians and Engineers
• Subcontractors and Site Inspectors
• Project Managers and Safety Officers requiring turbine access.

Purpose

The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is the global entry-level standard for the wind industry. This comprehensive package is designed for individuals working in or seeking access to wind turbine environments, providing the essential safety skills and technical knowledge required to work safely in both onshore and offshore wind energy operations. By combining five core safety modules, the course prepares participants to identify hazards, respond effectively to emergencies, and work safely alongside colleagues from day one on site.

Prerequisites

• A high level of physical fitness and a “Fit for Work" health declaration that is completed on arrival.
• A valid form of photographic identification on the day of training.
• A minimum age of 18 years.
• A valid GWO WINDA ID.
• The ability to communicate effectively in English.
