Course Assessments

Competency is assessed through a combination of knowledge and practical application:

  • Theory Review: Instructor-led discussions and knowledge checks to reinforce lifting principles and current industry best practices.
  • Practical Assessment: Direct observation of slinging and signalling techniques, including load preparation, communication, and safe direction of lifting operations.

For Who

This course is intended for personnel who are required to carry out slinger signaller duties within wind turbine environments and support lifting operations, including:

  • Wind Turbine Technicians and Engineers
  • Maintenance and Service Personnel
  • Subcontractors and Site Inspectors
  • Riggers and lifting support personnel

PPE Requirements

For the practical training sessions, participants must provide:

  • S3 Safety Boots.
  • Durable workwear (suitable for climbing and mechanical environments.)

Note: Specialist PFPE is provided by Hexis.

Purpose

The GWO Slinger Signaller module is designed for personnel working in wind turbine environments who are required to safely prepare, attach, and direct lifting operations. The course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to ensure loads are correctly slung and safely guided during lifting operations in both onshore and offshore wind energy environments.

Course Content

This module develops the knowledge and practical skills required to safely perform slinger signaller duties in wind turbine environments:

  • Lifting Principles: Understanding load behaviour and centre of gravity.
  • Legislation & Responsibilities: Awareness of duties during lifting operations.
  • Lifting Equipment: Selection, inspection, and correct use of slings, shackles, and lifting accessories.
  • Load Preparation: Safe attachment and securing of loads for lifting operations.
  • Signalling Methods: Standard hand signals used during lifting operations.
  • Communication: Effective coordination with crane operators and team members.
  • Risk Awareness: Identifying hazards during lifting operations and applying control measures.
  • Practical Operations: Hands-on slinging and signalling exercises.

Course Certification
